Information for freshmen
What is SOAR?
SOAR stands for Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration. At SOAR you will begin your transition to UW–Madison. You will learn about academic advising, course enrollment, campus resources, and campus life. You will also register for your fall-semester courses. The SOAR program allows you to:
- Gain exposure to the array of academic and social opportunities at UW–Madison.
- Begin to integrate into university life and culture
- Begin to define what you would like your Wisconsin Experience to be.
- Begin a successful transition from high school to college.
- Gain an understanding of university policies, procedures, and processes.
SOAR is one component in your transition to UW–Madison. The Center for the First-Year Experience offers many opportunities throughout your first year. The Center uses the Liberal Education and America's Promise for undergraduate students to develop programs that create a smooth transition to college and a successful first year.
