First-Year Programs Grant Request
Purpose
In an effort to enhance the experience of first year students, the Center for the First-Year Experience has established the First-Year Programs grant. The fund allows departments and organizations to request funding for courses, programs, and events which will enhance the first year experience and are on-going or, which occur throughout the entire academic year. Grant requests are accepted throughout the year.
Eligibility
All University of Wisconsin-Madison departments and registered student organizations may apply for this grant. Representatives from registered student organizations must have co-sponsorship from a UW-Madison affiliated department.
Criteria for Funding Requests
In order to be considered for funding, requests must meet the following:
- The request must be educational in nature.
- The target audience for the grant activity must be first year students and/or new transfer students.
- Registered Student Organizations seeking funding must be co-sponsored by at least one other University department. The amount being requested does not exceed 50% of the total budget for the program. Requests that exceed 50% may be considered but only with justification for special consideration.
- No admission or entrance fee can be charged, and no portion of the funds being requested may be donated to any individual or organization.
- Applicants must make reasonable efforts to ensure fiscal accountability and to reduce overall costs.
- The use of funds must be consistent with University Rules and Regulations.
- The program must be non-discriminatory and accessible to individuals with disabilities.
- The Center for the First-Year Experience must be identified as a sponsor on any promotional materials or event signage.
- Grant recipients will be highlighted on the CFYE web site to demonstrate the range of first-year experience activities available on campus.
- Grant receipts will submit a report to CFYE at the conclusion of the grant activity. The report includes information on budget, outcomes and assessment.

- Who will handle your accounting and fund transfer?
- What plans do you have to sustain this proposed program / initiative in the future without money from this grant?
- Detailed Budget including totals for supplies and services, student salaries, staff salaries, and other expenses.
- Are you receiving funding for this proposed program / initiative from any other sources?
